Dindigul and Oddanchatram do not have an airport of their own, so most visitors arrive by air at a nearby city and then travel by road — or arrive by train at Dindigul Junction. For one or two travellers a taxi is simple. For a family, a wedding party or a tour group, the plan needs a little more thought. This guide covers the options and how to avoid the usual problems.

Distances are approximate and drawn from public travel sources; they vary by route and starting point. Check your exact route before you travel.

Which airport is closest?

  • Madurai Airport is the nearest to Dindigul, at roughly 60–65 km. It is usually the best choice.
  • Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) Airport is roughly 90–100 km from Dindigul.
  • Coimbatore Airport is farther — sources give roughly 125–160 km depending on route and destination — and may suit travellers heading to the Palani side.

From Dindigul, Oddanchatram is about 29 km further along the road toward Palani, and Palani is roughly 28 km beyond that. Add this to your timing if your final stop is Oddanchatram.

Arriving by train

Dindigul Junction is a major railway station and a convenient arrival point if you are travelling by train. A group that arrives at the station can be met outside and continue by road to Oddanchatram, Palani, Kodaikanal or Sirumalai without changing vehicles.

What to plan for a group transfer

  • Flight or train details. Share the flight number, arrival time and station, so pickup timing can adjust to delays.
  • Number of passengers and luggage. Groups with many bags need a vehicle with proper luggage space — tell us what you carry.
  • Arrival hour. Late-night arrivals on hill or highway roads need extra care; mention the time up front.
  • Waiting time. Allow time for baggage claim and boarding passes. Don't plan a tight temple or wedding schedule right after landing.
  • Final address. Share the full destination address or a landmark for hotels, halls and guest houses, since not all are easy to find.

One vehicle for the whole group

Splitting a group across several cars multiplies the coordination: several pickups, several drivers, several late arrivals. A single vehicle means the whole family travels together, arrives together and shares one point of contact. Combine the transfer with sightseeing

Many guests prefer to combine the transfer with a trip. For example, land at Madurai, travel to Dindigul for the Rock Fort and lunch, and continue to Oddanchatram. Our guides to Dindigul sightseeing and Oddanchatram to Palani and Kodaikanal help you plan the route.
